With this idea in mind, Raysen Handpan introduces a new Off-centre Ding Handpan, bringing a fresh perspective to handpan design.
What Is an Off-centre Ding Handpan?
In a traditional handpan, the Ding is normally positioned at the center of the top shell. Raysen’s new design moves the Ding slightly away from the center, creating a more dynamic and unconventional layout.
This small change creates additional design possibilities while maintaining the familiar playing characteristics of a handpan. The Off-centreposition also gives the instrument a distinctive visual appearance that immediately sets it apart from traditional models.
More Possibilities on the Bottom Shell
Another key feature of this new design is the addition of two or more notes on the bottom shell. These notes are carefully positioned and tuned to work together with the notes on the top shell.
Depending on the configuration, the additional bottom notes can be arranged to create a Ding-shaped tonal area, giving the bottom shell a stronger musical function.
Instead of treating the bottom as simply the back of the instrument, this design turns it into an additional playing surface with its own tonal possibilities.
